The Annual Northern Mine Rescue Competition brought together the best mine rescue teams from across the North this past weekend in Yellowknife. As Diamond Sponsor, Bullitt Staffing Inc. was honoured to help make this critical event possible, continuing a tradition that has been strengthening mine safety for over five decades.

More than competition - it's a safety tradition

For decades, this competition has stood as a cornerstone of Northern mining safety culture. Teams test their skills in realistic emergency scenarios, ensuring they're prepared to protect their colleagues when it matters most.

Testing skills under pressure

The competition featured teams from seven Northern mine sites competing in rigorous emergency scenarios:

Surface Competition (7 events). Five Northern mine sites were represented:

-Agnico Eagle Meadowbank Gold Mine (Nunavut

-Agnico Eagle Meliadine Gold Mine (Nunavut)

-Baffinland Mary River Mine (Nunavut)

-Burgundy Ekati Diamond Mine (NWT)

-De Beers Group/Mountain Province Diamonds Gahcho Kué Diamond Mine (NWT)

Underground competition (8 events). Two mine sites were represented:

-Agnico Eagle Meliadine Gold Mine (Nunavut)

-B2Gold Goose Mine (Nunavut)

A community tradition

What makes this event special is the community it creates. Families and mining professionals gather annually to celebrate the heroes who keep our Northern mines safe. For many, attending has become a cherished tradition.

Looking forward

The Northern Mining Health & Safety Forum (NMHSF) organizes this competition to accelerate mine safety improvements across Northern operations. Their work starts the day after each competition, sharing best practices to foster a culture of Zero Harm.

Events like this require tremendous effort and financial support. Without dedicated sponsors and the NMHSF team's tireless work, this vital tradition couldn't continue.
